About Us

WHO ARE WE?

The South African Fire and Medical Academy (SAFMA) was established as a close corporation on 15th March 2003 for today’s training needs. It is an association of professionals who are dedicated to upskilling through accredited training in Fire Fighting, First Aid, Driven Machinery Regulations and Occupational Health and Safety techniques. SAFMA produces high quality learning to a desired standard and ensure a positive outcome. As part of our Quality Planning, we make sure our customer requirements are identified and achieved.

 

The corporation is a 135% level 1 B-BEE owned and managed company, and led by an experienced leadership team with a wealth of management and Industry knowledge. The business has an Administrative office and an independent Training venue with a comprehensive list of assets capable of servicing all its customers. We maintain an effective Quality Assurance System complying with requirements based on ISO 9001 2015.

OBJECTIVE

After completing any of the courses, the candidate will understand and be able to completely handle the Health and safety, Firefighting, First Aid duties and Driven Machinery Equipment responsibilities assigned to them in the company’s emergency action plan. Candidates will also be able to predict Risk, and know the actions necessary to change or prevent these behaviors. Working from Entry level to higher levels of Upskilling your staff, will make a significant contribution to the safety and physical welfare of your company.

SAFMA is a certified training provider with the Transport & Education Training Authority (TETA), South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Saiosh), Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), Department of Labour (DoL), Department of Transport(DoT) Southern Africa Auditor and Training Certification Authority(SAATCA) and Department of Higher Education.(DoHE) The organization is also a member of the Cape Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND DEVELOPMENT

While seeking to make a profit and continue to create employment first and foremost, SAFMA’s also sees it role as being part of a larger community. We believe that being able to be a part of creating and developing a better, safer quality of life is critical and SAFMA’s courses are therefore intended for the development of skills in workplace safety as well as community-based
organizations. SAFMA also initiated the establishment of a non-profit section 21 organisation to focus on school projects with the help of sponsors. The school’s projects focus on training secondary learners in fire life safety. SAFMA trained over 1300 learners from various high schools in the Western Cape.
